Frequently Asked Questions

Our Natural Valley Soil is made from a locally sourced sandy loam and aged organic compost. The organic compost is made from a combination of chicken and cow manure, which is processed and matured for optimal carbon release. This soil is blended in South East Queensland.

To calculate how much Natural Valley Garden Soil you need for your project, measure the length and width of the area where the soil will be placed.
Next, determine the desired depth of soil. If you are building new garden beds over concrete or existing soil, we generally recommend a depth of approximately 30 cm. If you are simply topping up existing garden beds or planters, the required depth will vary depending on the plant type.
Once you have your length, width, and depth measurements, you can use our cubic metre calculator above or calculate the volume manually using the following formula: Volume = Length x Width x Height

Natural Valley Garden Soil features a loamy soil base that is screened to remove contaminants and unwanted material before being blended with organic matter such as manure. The soil is then allowed to mature before use, helping improve nutrient availability and overall soil health.

Topsoil, on the other hand, is the natural upper layer of soil removed from a site. While it may also be screened for consistency, it generally does not contain added organic matter. As a result, it can be more susceptible to compaction, clumping, and poor drainage.

You can put this mix on top of your existing soil, however, we do recommend raking it in slightly when applying it to create a transition between your current soil and the new soil. This helps the nutrients penetrate deeper and encourages root growth.

We do not recommend putting this soil on top of grass or using it as a top dress. It would be better to remove your turf first or, if you need soil for levelling, use one of our top dressing sands.

Yes, our Natural Valley Soil is a great choice for use in garden beds and vegetable gardens. When we have conducted internal testing on our soils, Natural Valley Soil has consistently been one of the best options for vegetable growing.

Just note that, as this soil is a true soil and not made from a base of composted bark or mulch, it is a heavier mix and is not suitable for use in pots or raised garden beds that do not provide adequate drainage. We also recommend laying this soil in dry weather, as wet conditions during installation can sometimes cause particle binding.

Our Natural Valley Soil is a premium, nutrient-rich soil blend formulated to provide the perfect growing environment for your plants.
