Playground Sand *Certified*

Certified Playground Sand (sometimes known as softfall sand) is a screened and washed sand that is commonly used for:

It has been designed to compress on impact and provide children with a cushioned surface that helps reduce the risk of injury from falls when installed to the recommended depth.

Yes. Our Certified Playground Sand has been certified to Australian Standards (AS 4422:2022 & AS 4685.1:2021) for playground softfall applications.

It has been washed and screened to remove organic matter and impurities, and it has a consistent particle size that is suitable for compressing on impact to help cushion falls.

It also features a consistent colour, making it easier to identify hazards in the playground.

Our Certified Playground Sand is formulated to cushion falls from a maximum fall height of 3 metres when installed at a minimum depth of 340mm for normal playground use or 410mm for heavy playground use.

If you are using our product, these are the general depths to keep in mind when calculating how much Playground Sand you will need.

Your required depth also depends on the height of your playground equipment. If your equipment is higher than standard, the required depth may increase. We also recommend checking the equipment manufacturer's installation guidelines.

To calculate how much Certified Playground Sand you need for your project, measure the length and width of the area where the sand will be placed.

Next, determine the desired depth of the sand. The required depth will vary depending on the project you are undertaking and the area you need to fill.

Once you have your length, width, and depth measurements, you can use our cubic metre calculator above or calculate the volume manually using the following formula:

Volume = Length × Width × Height

Note: We recommend ordering a little extra to allow for settling, especially as the required depth for Playground Sand should be strictly maintained. Your calculations should also allow for compaction to help maintain the correct depth for ongoing safety.
