Frequently Asked Questions

Split Face Granite Boulders (150–600mm) are natural stone boulders commonly used in landscaping projects, including:

  • Garden feature displays
  • Rockeries
  • Retaining and terrace gardens
  • Water features
  • Property entrances
  • Native and contemporary landscape designs

This is one of the most difficult questions to answer accurately, as our Split Face Granite Boulders vary in size from 150mm to 600mm. However, there are a few ways to estimate how much you'll need.

Feature stones: If you're using the boulders as individual feature stones throughout a garden, start by mapping out where you'd like each rock to be placed. This will give you an idea of the quantity required. Once you've done this, we recommend visiting our yard to hand-select the boulders that best suit your project.

Garden edging: Because every boulder is a different size, there isn't an exact formula for calculating quantities. However, you can estimate the amount required by measuring the length of your garden edge and considering how you'd like the rocks to sit. For example: Will there be gaps between each boulder or will they be placed tightly together with little or no gap?

The table below is based on an average boulder size, with the rocks placed close together in a single row, one boulder high.

5 metres — 0.5–0.8 m³

10 metres — 1.0–1.5 m³

20 metres — 2.0–3.0 m³

30 metres — 3.0–4.5 m³

Note: These figures are intended as a guide only. The final quantity required will depend on the size of the individual boulders, the spacing between them, and how they are installed.

If you're unsure, give our team a call. We're happy to discuss your project, help estimate the quantity required, and let you know the approximate sizing of the current load in our yard. We can also send you photos before you visit.

Unfortunately, our staff are unable to hand-select or sort Split Face Granite Boulders by size. If you're looking for a more uniform appearance with rocks of a similar size, you're welcome to visit our yard and choose the individual boulders you would like before loading them into your vehicle.

We also offer a free courtesy trailer for up to three hours, making it easy to transport your selected boulders home.
