Frequently Asked Questions

Forest Mulch is suitable for use in garden beds, around trees and shrubs, and for general landscaping. It is a cost-effective choice for those wanting a ground cover for large spaces and has great staying power compared to finer mulches. Forest Mulch is also a great choice for weed suppression and moisture retention.

To calculate how much Forest Mulch you need for your project, measure the length and width of the area where the mulch will be placed.

Next, determine the desired depth of mulch. If you are mulching new garden beds or existing soil, we generally recommend a depth of approximately 75–100mm for Forest Mulch. If you are simply topping up already mulched areas, we recommend a depth of approximately 25mm.

Once you have your length, width, and depth measurements, you can use our cubic metre calculator above or calculate the volume manually using the following formula:

Volume = Length × Width × Height

Generally, mulch can be spread at a depth of 50–100mm, depending on the type of mulch.

For Forest Mulch, a depth of 75–100mm is recommended to help keep the mulch in place. These mulches are often lighter and have greater airflow, so they benefit from thicker coverage.

For medium mulches, we recommend a depth of 50–70mm for good coverage. This depth is thick enough to suppress weeds while still allowing good moisture retention.

For finer mulches, a depth of 20–50mm is usually suitable, as they are more likely to compact.

Yes, Forest Mulch slowly breaks down over time, adding nutrients to your soil and helping improve soil structure.

Forest Mulch is made from organic wood, bark, and other plant matter and gradually decomposes over time. It can last anywhere from 1–2 years in the garden and generally only requires periodic topping up.

Our Screened Forest Mulch is a cost-effective and reliable forest mulch designed to improve soil health, suppress weeds, and give gardens a clean natural finish. Made from processed tree and leaf material, this screened natural mulch offers a practical balance of texture, moisture retention, and long-lasting coverage for residential and commercial landscapes across Brisbane.

Ideal for garden beds, acreage properties, pathways, revegetation areas, and large landscaping projects, this mulch breaks down gradually over time, helping return organic matter to the soil while protecting plant roots from harsh sun and drying winds. Its screened consistency provides a neater appearance than rough chip mulch, making it a popular choice for homeowners and contractors alike.
