  • Decorative landscaping

Yes, 10mm Drainage Gravel is a great size for French drain systems. Its shape and size allow water to flow freely while fitting neatly around AG pipe and Bidim filter cloth, creating a compact and well-built French drain.

To calculate how much 10mm Drainage Gravel you need for your project, measure the length and width of the area where the gravel will be placed.

Next, determine the desired depth of the gravel. The required depth will vary depending on your project and the area you need to fill.

Once you have your length, width, and depth measurements, you can use our cubic metre calculator above or calculate the volume manually using the following formula:

Volume = Length × Width × Height

Note: We recommend adding at least 10% extra to your total calculated volume to allow for settling and levelling.

Both 10mm and 20mm Drainage Gravel can be used for many of the same applications, but there are situations where one size is better suited than the other. 10mm Drainage Gravel is ideal for smaller drainage applications where a finer finish is preferred. It is also well suited to areas where water flow is less intense.

20mm Drainage Gravel is better suited to high water-flow applications, such as behind retaining walls and around larger drainage systems.

Our drainage gravel/ blue metal is a crushed stone, screened to 10mm in size. Drainage Gravel is durable and beds down nicely for pathways or trails and can even be used in the garden as a landscaping stone. However it’s main purpose is being used as a drainage aggregate for backfilling trenches and retaining wall, securing drainage pipes and diverting water away from flooding or pooling areas.

Drainage Gravel Benefits
