Black Plastic Roll

Our 200UM Black Plastic Roll is commonly used for:

• Weed suppression in landscaping
• Moisture barriers under concrete slabs
• Ground protection on construction sites

We recommend a 200UM Black Plastic Roll. In Australia, 200-micron plastic is the standard requirement for use as a vapour barrier beneath concrete slabs and within wall framing, making it a reliable choice for many construction projects.

As a general rule, thicker plastic (a higher micron rating) is better suited to construction and moisture-barrier applications, while lighter-duty plastics are often more suitable for general landscaping applications.

To install black plastic, first clear the area of debris, rocks, and any sharp objects that could puncture the plastic. Before cutting the plastic, measure and plan your coverage. To help create a waterproof barrier, we recommend allowing a 200mm overlap between adjoining sheets.

Finally cut your black plastic and lay it out. Use builders’ tape on your overlapped plastic and edges to seal your surface.

Black plastic is waterproof, but your waterproofing is only as good as the way it is sealed. That’s why it is important to allow extra plastic for overlapping, helping to create a waterproof barrier.

Black plastic is also excellent at blocking out light but, as mentioned, it does restrict water flow. It is better suited to projects that require a strong moisture barrier and should not be used for general gardening.
