Road Base

Road Base is commonly used as a compactable foundation material for driveways, roads and access tracks, paving projects, concrete slabs, sheds and garages, retaining wall foundations, pathways, and hardstand areas.

To calculate how much Road Base you need for your project, measure the length and width of the area where the Road Base will be placed.

Next, determine the desired depth of the Road Base. The required depth will vary depending on the project you are undertaking and the area you need to fill. As a general guide, 100–150mm is suitable for driveways, while 50–75mm is suitable for garden paths, walkways, and patios.

Yes, Road Base should be compacted to prevent future movement and settling. If it is not compacted initially, foot traffic and other factors may compact sections naturally, but not evenly. Proper compaction creates a stronger, more stable base.

Road Base and Blue Crusher Dust are both compactable materials with very similar functions. Generally, Road Base is coarser and is often used for more commercial and trade applications such as shed slabs, roads, and structural sub-bases.

Blue Crusher Dust is a finer material that creates a stable, level surface and is more commonly used for decorative and landscaping applications such as paver bedding, garden pathways, and as a bedding layer beneath synthetic turf.
