Rapid Set Cement is quick-setting concrete mix commonly used for:

• Emergency concrete repairs
• Fixing posts, bolts, and fixtures
• Small patching jobs in driveways and paths
• Repairs where fast strength is required
• Time-sensitive construction or DIY projects

Rapid Set Concrete will begin setting immediately upon application and will harden in approximately 15 minutes. Supports can generally be removed after 1 hour. This makes it a great choice for quick repairs where time is of the essence.

When mixing Rapid Set Concrete, there are a few important things to remember before beginning.

Firstly, Rapid Set Concrete is already pre-mixed, so there is no need to add any extra sand or aggregates to the mix. When using this product, tools or concrete mixers are not recommended, as it sets too quickly. It is best to apply the product directly.

Rapid Set Concrete should not be used for structural applications and, when used for playground applications, should only be used below ground level if covered with softfall.

Rapid Set Concrete is also not recommended for use with aluminium posts or poles unless they have been primed or sealed according to the manufacturer's recommendations.

With this in mind, here are some tips for mixing your Rapid Set Concrete:

STEP 1: Place the post or pole in the hole and brace it with supports. Pre-soak the hole to reduce the absorption of water needed for the Rapid Set Concrete. Check your soil type beforehand, as fast-draining soils may require builders plastic to help retain moisture.

STEP 2: Measure the correct amount of water and pour it into the hole. Start with 2.0 litres per 20kg bag, adding an extra 0.3–0.5 litres only if required.

STEP 3: Pour half the bag of Rapid Set Concrete evenly into the hole, distributing it around the post. Tamp the product around the post using a rod to remove any air pockets. Add the remaining half bag of product and tamp again.  Add small amounts of water if required to ensure the mix is adequately wet.

STEP 4: After approximately 1 hour, check the stability of the post before removing the supports.

Rapid Set Cement is a great choice for projects requiring fast installation or urgent repairs. It is a pre-mixed product, so you simply add water and apply.

GP Cement is a base component of a concrete mix, meaning it still needs to be mixed with sand and aggregates before adding water. GP Cement is better suited to standard construction projects where customised mix ratios are required and longer curing times help achieve maximum strength.
