Frequently Asked Questions

Gardenwall Soft Split Retaining Wall Blocks are traditional hexagonal garden blocks used to create both straight and curved retaining walls. Made from durable concrete, these blocks have a textured finish that provides a natural stone appearance. They are commonly used for garden retaining walls, raised garden beds, tiered landscaping areas, decorative feature walls, and creating level areas in sloped gardens.

Gardenwall Soft Split Retaining Wall Blocks are suitable for retaining walls up to 1 metre high without reinforcement in ideal conditions.

The suitable height for your project will also depend on factors such as soil conditions, drainage requirements, site conditions, and the design of the retaining wall.

Note: Always follow the manufacturer's specifications for your specific project and check with your local council regarding retaining wall requirements.

Gardenwall Soft Split Retaining Wall Blocks are installed by preparing a stable base and constructing the wall course by course. The general installation process includes:

  1. Excavating and preparing a level foundation.
  2. Installing a compacted gravel or road base footing.
  3. Laying the first course of blocks accurately.
  4. Stacking additional blocks while maintaining alignment.
  5. Installing drainage behind the wall where required.
  6. Backfilling with suitable material.

Note: We recommend following the manufacturer's installation instructions for the specific requirements of your project. The guide above provides a general overview of the installation process.

The number of Gardenwall Soft Split Retaining Wall Blocks required depends on the length and height of your retaining wall. Each block measures 295 × 210 × 125mm, with approximately 26.9 blocks required per face square metre.

To calculate the quantity required, measure the total length and height of your retaining wall to determine the wall's face area in square metres. Multiply the total face area by 26.9 blocks per square metre to estimate the number of blocks required.

For example, a wall measuring 5m long × 0.625m high has a face area of 3.125m² and would require approximately 84 blocks before allowing for wastage.

Note: We recommend allowing approximately 5–10% extra blocks for cuts, breakages, installation adjustments, and future replacements.
