Brickies Own Plasticiser

Brickies Own Plasticiser is commonly used in masonry work to:

• Improve the workability of mortar
• Make bricklaying easier and smoother
• Reduce the amount of water needed in the mix
• Help mortar spread and adhere better to bricks and blocks
• Improve the consistency and finish of brick and block laying

Before use, shake the bottle well to ensure the product is evenly mixed.

1.  Dilute 1 litre of Brickies Own Plasticiser with 19 litres of clean water in a suitable container and mix thoroughly.

2.  Once diluted, add 12–25mL of the diluted solution per 20kg of cement.

Note: When stored out of direct sunlight, the diluted product remains usable for up to 12 months.

For DIY users, Brickies Own Plasticiser is a more user-friendly product that makes mortar easier to work with and can certainly be used as an alternative to hydrated lime.

For experienced bricklayers, there are a few key differences between hydrated lime and plasticiser:

Bulking: Hydrated lime is a powder and creates a bulking effect when added to mortar. If you are accustomed to using lime, you should allow for a slight reduction in mix volume when using plasticiser.

Water usage: Plasticiser requires less mixing water, which can help reduce shrinkage and cracking.

Alkalinity: Hydrated lime increases the alkalinity of the mortar, whereas plasticiser does not.

Breathability: Lime mortar is naturally more breathable than plasticised mortar. Traditional lime mortars also have the ability to self-heal very fine hairline cracks over time due to their unique chemical composition.

No. When used according to the application instructions, Brickies Own Plasticiser should not affect the strength of the mortar. It is designed to improve workability without compromising performance.

However, there is an ‘overdosing risk’ if too much plasticiser is added. Excessive amounts can introduce microscopic air pockets into the mix, which may reduce its durability and curing performance.
